Maitree Ahmednagar April 2018

It’s undeniable that a child’s reading skills are important to their success in school, work, and life in general.

Reading to young children is proven to improve and help along the process of cognitive development. Cognitive development is the emergence of the ability to think and understand; it’s “the construction of thought processes, including remembering, problem-solving, and decision-making, from childhood through adolescence to adulthood” It refers to how a person perceives and thinks about his or her world through areas such as information processing, intelligence, reasoning, language development, and memory.

Keeping these aspects in mind we decided to open a library for girls in orphanages in April, 2018. Each Mentor of Maitree gifted one book to a child which totaled 30 storybooks in all. These books in turn will be circulating amongst the girls thereby inculcating in them a love for reading and subtly altering cognitive development. We believe that the community at large will think of this as “our project” and not as your project by contributing books towards this cause.
